| Horizontal blinds are
the most common blinds. For a long time, they were not used in homes
because they were not available in the various colors, shades, textures and material that people
wanted. But today horizontal blinds are available in numerous
colors and styles. Also called Venetian blinds at times, the horizontal blind can be made from aluminum, vinyl, wood, faux wood. And, for those who feel that fabric provides a more sophisticated look to a home, horizontal blinds are now an option. |
|
Unlike vertical blinds, most horizontal blinds have two mechanisms that can be used
for opening and closing. One consists of a rod that hangs from the top. This can be rotated to allow complete or partial opening of the slats. This mechanism also comes in handy when one needs to clean the slats with a moist
cloth. The other consists of a string that hangs on the side. This string can be pulled to cluster the slats towards
the top to allow sunlight to enter.
Care should be taken to choose the right kind of horizontal blind for the right room. Wooden blinds are not a good idea for rooms that have moisture
like kitchens and bathrooms. Aluminum or faux wood blinds are a better choice. For
an office or bedroom, aluminum or vinyl blinds are a practical yet
inexpensive option. However, for the living room and other areas where guests are entertained, you may want to choose wood blinds to add that extra level of sophistication and panache.
